health and safety at pennant civil engineering

It is the policy of WJ Harte Construction and its trading divisions (the Harte Group) that it will carry out all work in accordance with best practice principles and with full acknowledgement of all relevant statutory requirements relating to Health and Safety at work. Our investment in ongoing training and external resources to ensure compliance is extensive, enabling us to undertake a wide variety of projects as Principal Contractor or Works Contractor as circumstances demand.

Highlights of our Group Health and Safety policy are listed as follows:

  •  Mr D N Watters is the Director who has primary responsibility for health and safety matters on behalf of the Board of Directors. Specific duties and responsibilities will be devolved and communicated to other Directors, Managers, Supervisors and to each employee.
  • The Group will communicate and enforce safety rules, method statements and safe systems of work to all personnel involved with construction activities.
  • The Group will provide training to employees to enable them to work safely and will maintain records of all training provided.
  • Policy and Organisation Arrangements are reviewed annually.  In addition, the Safety Management System is reviewed twice a year to ensure continued improvement, based on experience and changes to legislation or Codes of Practice.  The Director reviews monthly accident statistics and safety reports and advises the Board accordingly.  Company safety meetings are held quarterly, chaired by the Director, to which Representatives of Employees Safety, elected by employees, are invited.
  • The Group will not permit anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs to be involved with our construction activities. Random tests are carried out to ensure enforcement.

To facilitate the above, the Group undertakes independent audits and certification from the following organisations:

  •  Health and Safety updates and independent auditing provided by Murval Safety and Training Services.
  • The Harte Group is Link-up certified for rail related works.
  • Independent Health and Safety accreditation and auditing carried out by the Envirotec Group
  • The Harte Group are a SEPA certified waste carrier.
